Definition

The author's argument is the main point or claim that they are trying to make in a piece of writing. It is their central idea or position on a particular topic.

Analogy

Think of the author's argument as the foundation of a building. Just like how the foundation supports and holds up the entire structure, the author's argument supports and holds together their entire piece of writing.
