Set-Point Theory

Definition

The set-point theory is a concept in psychology that suggests our body has a pre-determined weight range to which it naturally tries to return, maintaining this 'set point' through adjustments in energy intake and expenditure.

Analogy

Think of the set-point theory like your home's thermostat. You set the temperature you want, and when it gets too cold or hot, your heating or cooling system kicks in to bring it back to that desired temperature. Similarly, your body adjusts its metabolism and hunger levels to maintain its 'set point' weight.

Metabolism: This refers to all chemical reactions involved in maintaining the living state of cells and organisms. It plays a key role in maintaining body weight.
