Definition

Once physiological needs are met, safety needs come into play. These include security, stability, freedom from fear.

Analogy

Safety needs are like having a reliable car alarm system after you've bought your dream car (met your physiological needs). You want assurance that your valuable possession will not be stolen or damaged.
