Definition

Pruning in psychology refers to the process by which extra neurons and synaptic connections are eliminated in order to increase the efficiency of neuronal transmissions.

Analogy

Pruning is like editing an essay. You start with a lot more content than you need, but by removing unnecessary words (or neurons), your message becomes clearer and more efficient.
