The pre-frontal cortex is the front part of the brain that is involved in complex cognitive behaviors, personality expression, decision making, and moderating social behavior.

Analogy

Think of the pre-frontal cortex as a conductor of an orchestra. It doesn't play any instruments itself but it coordinates all the other parts (musicians) to create harmony (smooth functioning).
