NREM-3 Sleep

Definition

Also known as deep sleep or slow-wave sleep, this is the third stage in the cycle of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep, during which the body repairs and regrows tissues, builds bone and muscle, and strengthens the immune system.

Analogy

Think of NREM-3 sleep as your body's maintenance crew working the night shift. While you're off duty (sleeping), they come in to repair any damage from the day, restock supplies, and get everything ready for another day of work.
