Leptin

Definition

Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells that signals the hypothalamus in the brain about our body fat level. When working properly, leptin helps maintain our body weight within a healthy range.

Analogy

Imagine leptin as your car's fuel gauge. Just like how this gauge alerts you when your gas tank is getting low or full, leptin communicates with your brain about how much energy reserves (or fat) you have stored up.
