Inattentional blindness is a psychological lack of attention and is not associated with any vision defects or deficits. It may be further defined as the event in which an individual fails to recognize an unexpected stimulus that is in plain sight.
Imagine you're at a party, engrossed in a conversation with your friend. You're so focused on the chat that you don't notice another friend has arrived until they tap you on the shoulder. That's like inattentional blindness - your focus on one thing can make you blind to other things happening around you.
Selective Attention: The process by which we focus on important information while ignoring irrelevant information.
Cognitive Load: The total amount of mental effort being used in working memory.
Perceptual Load: The amount of a person's perceptual capacity needed to carry out a particular perceptual task.
