DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a molecule that carries most of the genetic instructions used in development, functioning, growth and reproduction of all known living organisms.
DNA is like a blueprint for building a house. It contains all the information needed to construct and maintain an organism, just as blueprints detail everything necessary to build and maintain a house.
Gene: A gene is like one specific instruction on the blueprint – it’s a segment of DNA that codes for a particular trait or function.
Chromosome: Chromosomes are long strands of DNA wound around proteins. They're like rolled-up blueprints when not in use during construction.
Nucleotide: Nucleotides are the basic building blocks of DNA - they're akin to individual lines and symbols on your house blueprint.
