Definition

Affiliation refers to our need to belong with others in relationships, while achievement refers to our drive to succeed and excel.

Analogy

Think of a sports team. The players need affiliation - they have to work together, support each other, and feel like they're part of the team. But they also need achievement - they want to win games, improve their skills, and maybe even get recognized as MVP.
