Equipotential lines

Definition

Equipotential lines are imaginary lines drawn through space to represent points with equal electric potential. They show areas where no work is done when moving charges along those lines.

Analogy

Imagine equipotential lines as contour lines on a map. Just like how contour lines connect points with equal elevation, equipotential lines connect points with equal electric potential. Moving along these lines is like walking on flat ground - no uphill or downhill effort required.

Related terms

Electric Potential Difference: The change in electric potential between two different points.

Conductors and Insulators: Materials that allow or resist the flow of electrical charges, respectively.
