A periodic wave refers to a type of wave that repeats itself in both space and time. It has a consistent pattern of oscillation.

Imagine a group of synchronized swimmers performing a routine in a pool. As they move through the water, their movements repeat in a rhythmic pattern, creating waves that propagate across the pool.
