Definition

Distance refers to the amount of space between two points. It is a scalar quantity that only considers magnitude and not direction.

Analogy

Think of distance as the length of a road trip. It tells you how far you have traveled from your starting point, but it doesn't tell you which direction you went or how fast you were driving.
