Definition

Register refers to the range of pitches that a voice or instrument can produce. It is divided into three main categories: low, middle, and high.

Analogy

Think of register like different floors in a building. The low register is like the basement, where you find deep sounds. The middle register is like the main floor, where most everyday sounds occur. And the high register is like the top floor, where you find high-pitched sounds.
