Preparation

Anticipation: A type of preparation where a pitch from an upcoming chord is played early in the preceding chord.

Pedal Point (or Drone): A sustained or repeated pitch that remains constant while harmonies change around it.

Cadence: A series of chords or notes that create a sense of resolution at the end of a musical phrase or section.
