An octave plus a 2nd, also known as a 9th, refers to an interval consisting of eight letter names plus one additional note. For example, C to D is an octave plus a 2nd because there are eight letter names (C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C) and one additional note (D).
Imagine climbing up a ladder with nine steps instead of just eight. Each step represents a different note on the musical scale. You start on C and end on D after going through all the other steps.
Interval Quality: Describes whether an interval is major (larger) or minor (smaller).
Major Scale: A specific pattern of whole and half steps used to create melodies and harmonies.
Chromatic Scale: A scale that includes all twelve pitches within an octave.
