Harmonics

Definition

Harmonics are additional tones that are produced along with the fundamental frequency of a sound. These tones are whole number multiples of the fundamental frequency and contribute to the timbre or quality of a sound.

Analogy

Imagine you have a guitar string that you pluck. The main note you hear is the fundamental frequency, but if you look closely, you'll notice smaller vibrations happening simultaneously. These smaller vibrations are like harmonics, adding richness and complexity to the overall sound.
