Cohesion refers to how well the elements within a piece of writing fit together smoothly. It involves using transitional words/phrases, repetition, parallelism, and other techniques to create logical connections between ideas.
Think of cohesion as building blocks in Lego sets. Each block fits perfectly with another one, creating a sturdy structure. Similarly, in writing, cohesive elements connect ideas seamlessly, creating a strong and coherent piece.
Transition: Words or phrases that help link ideas and create smooth flow between sentences or paragraphs.
Repetition: Repeating certain words or phrases to reinforce an idea or create emphasis.
Parallelism: Using similar grammatical structures to show equal importance between ideas.
