Setsubun is an annual Japanese festival celebrated on February 3rd. It marks the end of winter and welcomes spring. During this festival, people throw roasted soybeans while shouting "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" (Demons out! Fortune in!) to drive away evil spirits.
Imagine you are playing a game where you have to throw beans at imaginary monsters to protect your home from bad luck. Setsubun is like that, but in real life!
Mame-maki: The act of throwing roasted soybeans during Setsubun to drive away evil spirits.
