Stage 2 of Demographic Transition Model (DTM) represents a period where death rates begin to fall while birth rates remain high leading to rapid population growth. This usually happens due to improvements in healthcare and sanitation.
Imagine stage 2 DTM as your teenage years. Just like how teenagers often experience rapid growth spurts due to hormonal changes, countries in stage 2 experience rapid population growth due to falling death rates and still high birth rates.
Demographic Transition Model (DTM): A model that describes population change over time based on observed patterns from different countries' histories.
Infant Mortality Rate: The number of deaths under one year of age occurring among live births in a given geographical area during a given year, per 1,000 live births occurring among the population of the given geographical area during the same year.
Life Expectancy at Birth: The average number of years a newborn infant would live if prevailing patterns of mortality at their time were to stay same throughout their life.
