Areas that are not urbanized, typically characterized by low population density, small settlements or farmland.
Imagine rural areas like the open countryside. Just as the countryside is filled with wide-open spaces, fewer people per square mile than cities (low-density), farms or pastures; rural regions have similar characteristics with less built-up structures compared to cities.
Rural-Urban Fringe: The boundary zone outside the urban area proper where rural and urban land uses intermix.
Rural Depopulation: The decline in population observed in many rural regions as inhabitants migrate to urban areas for better opportunities.
Agriculture: The science or practice of farming including cultivation of the soil for growing crops and rearing animals to provide food, wool etc., often found predominantly in rural settings.
