The Galactic City Model or Peripheral Model describes how an urban area consists of an inner city surrounded by large suburban residential and business areas tied together by a beltway or ring road.
Consider the Galactic City Model as a solar system. The inner city is the sun, and the suburban areas are planets revolving around it, all connected by gravitational pull (the beltway).
Urban Morphology: This term refers to the study of physical form and structure of urban places.
Central Business District (CBD): This is the commercial and business center of a city, often referred to as 'downtown'.
Urbanization: This is the process by which towns and cities are formed and become larger as more people begin living and working in central areas.
