Definition

The widespread exchange of plants, animals, diseases, and technologies between the Americas (New World) and Europe, Africa, and Asia (Old World) following Christopher Columbus' voyages in 1492.

Analogy

Think of the Colombian Exchange as a massive trade fair where goods are exchanged between different continents. Just like people bring products from different places in a trade fair, the Colombian Exchange brought various items and ideas across continents.
