The President Pro Tempore is a constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President.
Think of the President Pro Tempore as a substitute teacher. When your regular teacher (the Vice President) isn't there, they step in to keep things running smoothly.
Senate: The upper house of Congress, consisting of two representatives from each state.
Vice President: The second highest executive officer who also serves as president of the Senate but can only vote to break ties.
Constitution: The fundamental principles and established precedents according to which a state or other organization is governed.
