Definition
Data collection refers to the process of gathering and storing information about individuals' activities, behaviors, preferences, or characteristics for various purposes such as analysis, research, marketing, or surveillance.
Analogy
Imagine data collection as a giant net collecting fish in a lake. Companies collect data points about you just like the net collects fish in order to understand your preferences and habits better.
