Definition

These are interconnected routes or systems across which goods, ideas, information and people move globally. They were established between Europe, Asia, Africa and Americas during Age of Exploration.

Analogy

Imagine worldwide trade networks as an international airport system. Different airports (countries) are connected via numerous flight paths (trade routes), allowing passengers (goods & ideas) to travel around the globe efficiently.

Silk Road: An ancient network of trade routes that connected East Asia with Mediterranean world including parts of North Africa and Europe.

Triangle Trade: A historical term indicating trade among three ports or regions usually associated with Atlantic slave trade in 16-19th century where it connected Europe, Africa and Americas.

Globalization: The process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale, often driven by trade and investment.
