William and Mary

Definition

William III (1650-1702) and Mary II (1662-1694) were co-regents over the Kingdoms of England, Scotland, and Ireland after they accepted an invitation from Parliament to take over from James II following what's known as "The Glorious Revolution."

Analogy

Imagine if your school principal was not doing a great job, so students voted for two popular teachers to run things instead. That's kind-of like what happened with William and Mary taking over for James II.
