The process of making an area more urban, typically involving the shift from a rural to an urban lifestyle. This often occurs as a result of industrialization and is characterized by population growth in towns and cities.
Think of urbanization like popcorn popping. Each kernel (or small town) starts off small, but with enough heat (or industrial development), it expands rapidly into a much larger piece of popcorn (a bustling city).
Industrial Revolution: A period from the 18th to 19th century where major changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transport, and technology had a profound effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions starting in the United Kingdom.
Migration: The movement by people from one place to another with intentions of settling temporarily or permanently in the new location. During urbanization, there's often migration from rural areas to cities.
Population Density: A measurement of population per unit area or unit volume; it is used to compare how crowded different places are. Cities during periods of rapid urbanization would have high population densities.
