Spanish overseas colonies

Definition

These were territories claimed and governed by Spain outside of the Iberian Peninsula, primarily in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania from the late 15th to early 19th centuries.

Analogy

Think of Spanish overseas colonies like a chain of fast food restaurants. Just as a restaurant brand expands its reach by opening branches in different locations, Spain extended its influence and control by establishing colonies across various parts of the world.
