Quinine

Definition

Quinine is a natural white crystalline alkaloid having antipyretic (fever-reducing), antimalarial, analgesic (painkilling), and anti-inflammatory properties. It was historically used as a treatment for malaria.

Analogy

Think of quinine like the original "bug spray" against malaria. Just like bug spray protects you from mosquito bites, quinine was used to protect and treat people from the harmful effects of malaria.
