Open Door Policy

Definition

The Open Door Policy refers to America’s approach to China around 1900, allowing multiple imperial powers access to China—with none having exclusive control over Chinese trade or territory.

Analogy

Imagine you're at a party with your friends (the imperial powers) and there's only one pizza left (China). Instead of letting just one friend have it all, you suggest everyone gets an equal slice—that's essentially what America did with its Open Door Policy.
