Frans Hals was a Dutch Golden Age painter known for his loose painterly brushwork. He helped introduce this lively style of painting into Dutch art.
If we compare art to music genres then Hals would be like jazz - spontaneous, vibrant and full of life!
Genre Painting: A style of painting depicting scenes from ordinary life, especially domestic situations. Genre painting is associated particularly with 17th-century Dutch and Flemish artists.
Portraiture: The art or practice of taking or creating portraits; it's like an artist's version of photography but done through paintings or drawings.
Impasto Technique: It's a technique used in painting where paint is laid on an area very thickly so that it stands out from the surface. Like adding extra cheese on your pizza!
