Definition

Galen was a Greek physician, surgeon and philosopher in the Roman Empire. He is considered one of the most accomplished medical researchers in Ancient history. His theories dominated European medicine for over 1,000 years.

Analogy

Imagine if someone wrote a book on how to fix cars that everyone used for over 1,000 years before anyone thought to update it or question its methods. That's kind of what happened with Galen's work on medicine!
