French Republic

Definition

The French Republic refers to the government of France since the collapse of absolute monarchy in the late 18th century. It is characterized by democratic rule, secularism, and a strong emphasis on individual rights.

Analogy

Think of the French Republic as a new coach for a sports team. Before, there was an autocratic coach (the monarch) who made all decisions without consulting anyone else. But now, with this new coach (the republic), everyone on the team has a say in how things are run.
