The effects of European expansion refer to the changes and impacts that occurred as a result of Europe's exploration, colonization, and trade with other parts of the world from the 15th century onwards.
Think about it like a game of chess. In this game, Europe is the player making strategic moves (exploration, colonization) on different squares (countries/regions). Each move has consequences - some pieces (native cultures) are removed from the board or changed significantly while others become more powerful (European nations).
Colonialism: This refers to the practice by which a powerful country directly controls less powerful countries and uses their resources to increase its own power and wealth.
Imperialism: This is a policy or ideology by which a nation extends its power by acquiring territories. It may also include the exploitation of these territories for economic gain.
Cultural Exchange: This term refers to the sharing or blending of different cultural aspects as a result of interaction between societies. During European expansion, there was an exchange in terms of food, ideas, diseases etc.
