Cash crops are agricultural crops grown specifically for sale to return a profit. They are typically purchased by parties separate from a farm.
Imagine you're playing a farming video game. You could grow any crop, but you choose to grow the ones that sell for the most coins - those are your cash crops!
Plantation System: A system of agriculture where large farms in the New World used the enforced labor of slaves to plant and harvest cash crops.
Tobacco: One of the major cash crops grown in colonial America, especially Virginia and Maryland.
Cotton: Another significant cash crop particularly after invention of cotton gin, it became primary crop in Southern United States during 19th century.
