Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)

Definition

PFAS are a group of human-made chemicals used in a wide range of products due to their resistance to heat, water, and oil. They have been widely used in non-stick cookware, waterproof clothing, food packaging materials, and firefighting foams.

Analogy

Think of PFAS as superheroes with superpowers like being resistant to heat, water, and oil. They protect our clothes from getting wet or stained while cooking delicious meals without worrying about sticking pans. However, just like some superheroes have hidden side effects from their powers, PFAS also come with potential risks.
