Perchlorate
Definition
Perchlorate is an ion commonly found in certain fertilizers and industrial chemicals. It can contaminate water sources when it leaches into groundwater or surface water. Perchlorate exposure can interfere with the functioning of the thyroid gland, which regulates metabolism and growth.
