Definition
An oil spill is an accidental or deliberate release of liquid petroleum hydrocarbons into the environment, typically occurring in water bodies such as oceans, rivers, or lakes. It can have severe ecological and economic consequences due to the toxic effects on marine life and ecosystems.
Analogy
Imagine accidentally knocking over a bottle of cooking oil onto your kitchen floor. The oil spreads quickly, making it slippery and difficult to clean up. Now imagine that happening on a much larger scale in a body of water, affecting not just your kitchen but also harming wildlife and polluting the entire area.
