Near threatened (NT)

Definition

Near threatened is a category used by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to classify species that are at risk of becoming endangered in the near future. These species may have declining populations or face specific threats to their survival.

Analogy

Imagine you're playing a game and your character's health bar is almost empty, but not quite. Your character is near threatened - one more hit and they'll be in real danger!

Least concern (LC): This category is used by the IUCN to classify species that have a low risk of extinction. They are not currently facing any major threats.
