Definition

Kinetic energy refers to the energy possessed by an object due to its motion. It is dependent on both the mass and velocity of the object.

Analogy

Imagine a soccer ball rolling down a hill at a fast speed. The kinetic energy of the ball is like the excitement you feel when watching it zoom past you.
