A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is an attempt by multiple compromised computers or devices to overwhelm a target website or network with excessive traffic, causing it to become slow or unavailable for legitimate users.
Imagine trying to enter a crowded concert venue where everyone is pushing towards the entrance at once. The sheer number of people makes it impossible for anyone else to get through. In a DDoS attack, the flood of incoming requests overwhelms the target server just like the crowd overwhelms the entrance.
Botnet: A botnet is a network of infected computers controlled by an attacker and used collectively for malicious activities such as DDoS attacks.
Traffic Flooding: Traffic flooding refers to overwhelming a network with an excessive amount of data packets, disrupting its normal operation.
Firewall: A firewall is a security device that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic, protecting a network from unauthorized access or attacks.
