Data Type Declaration

Definition

A data type declaration specifies the type of data that a variable can hold in a programming language. It defines what kind of values can be stored and how those values can be manipulated.

Analogy

Imagine you have different containers for storing things - one for liquids, one for solids, and one for gases. The data type declaration is like labeling each container so you know what kind of substance it can hold.
