Reaction Coupling

Definition

A phenomenon where an energetically unfavorable reaction (endergonic) is driven by a favorable one (exergonic), allowing the overall process to occur.

Analogy

Imagine you're at a theme park. You really want to go on a scary roller coaster ride (unfavorable reaction), but you're too scared to do it alone. Your friend, who loves thrill rides (favorable reaction), agrees to join you. Their enthusiasm drives your decision, and together, you both end up enjoying the ride!
