Proton acceptors are substances that can accept or receive a hydrogen ion (H+) in a chemical reaction, specifically in an acid-base reaction.
Going back to our party analogy, proton acceptors are like guests who didn't bring their own snacks but are happy to take some from those generous friends we mentioned earlier. They're always ready and willing to receive what's being offered.
Bronsted-Lowry Base: Another term for proton acceptor. It's any substance that can accept a hydrogen ion.
Hydroxide Ion (OH-): A common base or proton acceptor found in many household cleaning products and bases used in labs.
Base Dissociation Constant (Kb): Measures the strength of a base in solution, or how likely it is to accept protons.
