Definition

Dissociation in chemistry refers to the separation of particles that were previously combined. In the context of acids and bases, it's when a compound breaks apart into its ions when dissolved in water.

Analogy

Think about dissociation like breaking up a Lego structure. When you put the Lego structure (the compound) into water, it breaks apart into individual Lego pieces (ions).
