Basic Solutions

Definition

Basic solutions are solutions that have more hydroxide ions (OH-) than hydrogen ions (H+) and therefore have a pH greater than 7.

Analogy

Imagine basic solutions as being like an ice cream shop where there are more chocolate scoops (representing OH- ions) compared to vanilla scoops (representing H+ ions). The dominance of chocolate scoops makes this shop 'chocolatey' just like how dominance of OH- makes the solution basic!
