Parameters

Definition

Parameters are variables or constants that are used to define or describe mathematical objects or relationships. They allow us to customize or adjust certain aspects of these objects or relationships.

Analogy

Imagine you're baking cookies and following a recipe. The amount of sugar, flour, and butter specified in the recipe are parameters. By adjusting these parameters, you can change how sweet, fluffy, or rich your cookies turn out.

Related terms

Dependent Variable: A variable whose value depends on another variable(s). In our cookie analogy, this would be something like how tasty the cookies turn out.

Parameter Space: The set of all possible values that parameters can take within a given context.
