Definition

A mathematical function where the independent variable appears in an exponent, resulting in rapid growth or decay.

Analogy

Picture exponential functions like compound interest on money. As time goes on, your balance grows faster and faster because each new calculation includes previous interest earned.

Logarithm: The inverse operation of exponentiation; it "undoes" exponential functions by solving for the exponent.

Asymptote: A line that a graph approaches but never touches, often seen in exponential functions as they approach infinity or zero.
