Definition

The derivative of velocity with respect to time. It represents the rate of change of velocity over time.

Analogy

Imagine you are driving a car and your speedometer shows how fast you're going. If you look at the speedometer every second, the change in speed (dv) divided by the change in time (dt) gives you your acceleration.
